Thomas J. Dormody is a Regents Professor Emeritus in the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education. He retired in 2021 after serving 32 years in the department. Dr. D. taught courses in methods of teaching biological, earth, and physical sciences in agriculture; the diffusion and adoption of agricultural innovations; sustainability; and agricultural communications and leadership. His most recent research focused on developing an online middle school curriculum to improve youth weather and climate science comprehension , and achieving elementary grade agricultural literacy and understanding of sustainable agricultural concepts through keyhole gardening. He served as Director of the Division of Education and Dean of the Graduate School at CATIE (Center for Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education) in Turrialba, Costa Rica from 2012 to 2013. He also served as Agricultural and Extension Education Department Head for 14 years. In retirement, he has become a Certified Interpretive Guide in the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument. Dr. D. holds a BS from Oregon State University, MS from the University of California at Davis, and Ph.D. from Cornell University.
