Richie Roberts

Dr. Richie Roberts is a Professor and Department Head for the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education. He assumed the duties of Department Head of Agricultural and Extension Education in the College of Agricultural in January 2025.
His research focuses on the development of human capital in the agricultural sector through (1) STEM education, (2) high-impact learning experiences, and (3) diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DIEB). Before accepting an administrative role at NMSU, Dr. Roberts spent six years as a faculty at Louisiana State University and one year at North Carolina A&T State University.
 
Dr. Roberts has taught courses focused on agricultural teacher preparation, the Cooperative Extension service, leadership, history and philosophy, service-learning, grant writing, and qualitative and mixed methods research. Dr. Roberts has received numerous awards for his work including receiving the Outstanding Early Career Award from the American Association for Agricultural Education (AAAE) as well as the Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education (AIAEE). He was also awarded the Harry Clayton Sanders Sr. Endowed Professorship in Extension Education from Louisiana State University. Dr. Roberts’ research has also been recognized as the Article of Year by the Journal of Agricultural Education, Journal of International Agricultural and Extension Education, and the Journal of Southern Agricultural Education Research
