Kiona Tinney
Kiona Tinney is a graduate student in the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education at New Mexico State University, pursuing a Master of Arts in Agricultural and Extension Education (Thesis Option). Her research focuses on supporting teachers in tribal schools, exploring themes of culturally responsive pedagogy, mentorship, and educator well-being. Drawing on her background as a 4-H and FFA member, she is passionate about agricultural education, youth leadership, and the empowerment of Indigenous communities.
Her thesis, Bridging the Gap: Understanding the Support Needs of Tribal School Teachers in Gallup-McKinley County Schools, examines how schools can strengthen support systems for educators through culturally relevant and community-based approaches. Beyond her academic work, Kiona is actively involved in the NMSU Mexican International Student Chapter and is committed to fostering inclusive, supportive spaces for students navigating cross-cultural challenges
Kiona plans to continue her work in agricultural and extension education by advancing equitable, culturally grounded programs that uplift both students and teachers in diverse communities.
